Generators - Portable

Home Energy Station is the name of Honda's upcoming heat and electricity generator for the home. HES IV is able to supply a sufficient amount of hydrogen to power a fuel cell vehicle, while providing electricity for an average-sized household.

The Home Energy Station is also able to function as a backup power generation system during power outages by using the hydrogen in the storage tank to power the internal fuel cell, providing as much as 5 kilowatts of electrical power and up to 3 normal cubic meters per hour (Nm3/hr) of hydrogen to the home in normal and emergency conditions.

Engine-generators are available in a wide range of power ratings. These include small, hand-portable units that can supply several hundred watts of power, hand-cart mounted units, that can supply several thousand watts and stationary or trailer-mounted units that can supply over a million watts. Regardless of the size, generators may run on gasoline, diesel, natural gas, propane, sewage gas or hydrogen.

Most of the smaller units are usually built to use gasoline (petrol) as a fuel, and the larger ones have various fuel types, including diesel, natural gas and propane (liquid or gas). Some engines may also operate on diesel and gas simultaneously.

Portable engine-generators may require an external power conditioner to safely operate some types of electronic equipment. Small portable generators may use an inverter. Inverter models can run at slower RPMs to generate the power that is necessary, thus reducing the noise of the engine and making it more fuel-efficient. Inverter generators are best to power sensitive electronic devices such as computers and lights that use a ballast.

Generators - Welder

A welding power supply is a device that provides an electric current to perform welding.

Welding usually requires high current (over 80 amperes) and it can need above 12,000 amps in spot welding. Low current can also be used. A welding power supply can be as simple as a car battery and as sophisticated as a modern machine based on silicon controlled rectifier technology with additional logic to assist in the welding process.

Welding machines are usually classified as constant current (CC) or constant voltage (CV); a constant current machine varies its output voltage to maintain a steady current while a constant voltage machine will fluctuate its output current to maintain a set voltage.

The nature of the CV machine is required by gas metal arc welding and flux-cored arc welding because the welder is not able to control the arc length manually. If a welder attempted to use a CV machine to weld with shielded metal arc welding the small fluctuations in the arc distance would cause wide fluctuations in the machine's output. With a CC machine the welder can count on a fixed number of amps reaching the material to be welded regardless of the arc distance but too much distance will cause poor welding.

Welding machines may also use generators or alternators to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. Modern machines of this type are usually driven by an internal combustion enginen but some older machines may also use an electric motor to drive the alternator or generator. In this configuration the utility power is converted first into mechanical energy then back into electrical energy to achieve the step-down effect similar to a transformer. Because the output of the generator can be direct current, these older machines can produce DC from AC without any need for rectifiers of any type.

Generators - Diesel

A diesel generator is the combination of a diesel engine with an alternator to generate electric energy.

Diesel generating sets are used in places without connection to the power grid or as emergency power-supply if the grid fails. Small portable diesel generators range from about 1 kVA to 10 kVA may be used as power supplies on construction sites, or as auxiliary power for vehicles such as mobile homes.

Diesel generators, sometimes as small as 250 kVA are widely used not only for emergency power, but also many have a secondary function of feeding power to utility grids either during peak periods, or periods when there is a shortage of large power generators.

Generating sets are selected based on the load they are intended to supply power for, taking into account the type of load, ie emergency or for continuous power, and the size of the load, and size of any motors to be started which is normally the critical parameter.

Stainless Steel Refrigerator

A refrigerator is a cooling appliance comprising a thermally insulated compartment and a heat pump--chemical or mechanical means—to transfer heat from it to the external environment, cooling the contents to a temperature below ambient.

Refrigerators are extensively used to store foods which spoil from bacterial growth if not refrigerated.
It is a device which maintains a temperature a few degrees above the freezing point of water.

A similar device which maintains a temperature below the freezing point of water is called a "freezer."

The refrigerator is a relatively modern invention among kitchen appliances. It replaced the icebox, which had been a common household appliance for almost a century and a half prior. For this reason, a refrigerator is sometimes referred to as an "icebox".
A vapor compression cycle is used in most household refrigerators.

The refrigerator allows the modern family to keep food fresh for much longer than before. This, along with the modern supermarkets, allows most families, without a sizeable garden in which to grow vegetables and raise animals, a vastly more varied diet and improved health resulting from improved nutrition. Diary products, meats, fish, poultry and vegetables can be kept refrigerated in the same space within the kitchen (although raw meat should be kept separate from other foodstuffs for reasons of hygiene.

The refrigerator lets people eat more salads, fresh fruits and vegetables, without having to own a garden or an orchard. Exotic foodstuffs from far-off countries that have been imported by means of refrigeration can be enjoyed in the home because of domestic refrigeration.

Freezers allow households to buy food in bulk: it can be eaten at leisure, and bulk purchase saves money. Ice on demand not only adds to the enjoyment of cold drinks, but is useful for first-aid, and for cold packs that can be kept frozen for picnics or in case of emergency.

Carpet Cleaners

Carpet cleaning, primarily for beautification, and removal of stains, dirt, grit, sand, and allergens, is achieved by several methods, both traditional and modern.
Clean carpets are recognized by manufacturers as being more visually pleasing, potentially longer-lasting and probably healthier than poorly maintained carpets.

Many dry carpet cleaning systems rely on specialized machines. Dry carpet cleaning machines include those manufactured by Brush and Clean, Host Dry and Whittaker System.

Dry carpet cleaning systems are mostly technically "very low moisture" (VLM) systems, relying on dry compounds complemented by application cleaning solutions, and are growing significantly in market share due in part to their very rapid drying time, a significant factor for 24-hour commercial installations. Dry-cleaning and "very low moisture" systems are also often faster and less labor-intensive than wet-extraction systems.

Bathroom Sink

In plumbing, a sink or basin is a bowl-shaped fixture that is used for washing hands or small objects.
Sinks generally have taps (faucets) that supply hot and cold water and may include a spray feature to be used for faster rinsing. They also include a drain to remove used water; this drain may itself include a strainer and/or shut-off device and an overflow-prevention device. Sinks may also have an intergrated soap dispensers.

When a sink becomes stopped-up or clogged, a person will often resort to use a chemical drain cleaner or a plunger.

Sinks are made of many different materials including Stainless steel and Enamel over cast iron.

Enamel over cast iron is the most popular material for kitchen and bathroom sinks. Heavy and durable, these sinks can also be manufactured in a very wide range of shapes and colors.
Like stainless steel, they are very resistant to hot or cold objects, but they can be damaged by sharp impacts and once the glass surface is breached, the underlying cast iron will often corrode, spalling off more of the glass. Aggressive cleaning will dull the surface, leading to more dirt accumulation.
Enamel over steel is a similar-appearing but far less rugged and less cost-effective alternative.

Cutlery/Flatware/Silverware

Cutlery refers to any hand implement used in preparing, serving, and especiallyeating food in the Western world. It is more usually known as silverware or flatware in the United States, where cutlery can have the more specific meaning of knives and other cutting instruments.

The major items of cutlery in the Western world are the knife, fork and spoon.
Traditionally, good quality cutlery was made from silver (hence the U.S. name), though steel was always used for more utilitarian knives, and pewter was used for some cheaper items, especially spoons. Plastic cutlery is made for disposable use, and is frequently used outdoors, for instance, camping, excursions and BBQs, fast-food or take-away outlets, or provided with airline meals.

Cast Iron Cookware

A Cast Iron Cookware is a type of food preparation container commonly found in the kitchen. Cookware comprises cooking vessels, such as saucepans and frying pans, intended for use on a stove or range cooktop.

Cast iron is used for cookware because it has excellent heat retention and diffusion properties and can be produced and formed with a relatively low level of technology.

Seasoning is a process used to protect bare cast iron cookware rusting, provide a non-stick surface for cooking, and prevent food from interacting with the iron of the pan.

Cast iron's ability to withstand and maintain very high cooking temperatures makes it a common choice for frying, and its excellent heat diffusion and retention makes it a good option for long-cooking stews or braised dishes. Because cast iron skillets can develop an extremely "non-stick" surface, they are also a good choice for egg dishes, particularly scrambled eggs.

Types of bare cast iron cookware include frying pans, deep fryers and grill pans.

Braisers and Roasters are large, wide and shallow, to provide space to cook a roast, (chicken, beef, pork). They typically have two loop or tab handles, and may have a cover.

Roasters are usually made of heavy gauge metal so that they may be used safely on a cooktop following roasting in an oven. There is no sharp boundary between braisers and roasters - the same pan, with or without a cover, can be used for both functions.

Dutch ovens are heavy, relatively deep pots with a heavy lid, designed to re-create oven conditions on the stovetop. They can be used for stews, braised meats, soups, and a large variety of other dishes that benefit from low heat, slowcooking.

Frying pans provide a large flat heating surface and shallow sides, and are best for pan frying. Grill pans are frypans that are ribbed, to let fat drain away from the food being cooked. Frypans and grill pans are generally measured by diameter(20–30 cm).

Combo Washer Dryer

A combo washer dryer is a combination of a washing machine and a clothes dryer.

Washer dryer combinations are a type of home appliance that handles the basic laundering duties of washing and drying clothes.

These machines are often referred to as "combo washer dryers" or "all-in-one washer dryers," but basically the washer dryer combo is the size of a standard or compact washing machine that is able to perform both washing and drying functions.

Combination washer dryers allow clothes to be washed and dried "in one go", saving time and effort from the user. Many washer dryer combo units are also designed to be portable so they can be attached to a sink instead of requiring a separate water line.

Stackable machines, on the other hand, are defined by two separate machines, a washer and a dryer, stacked on top of one another. These stackable machines are often a good choice for large families that still need the full capacity and functionality of a washer and dryer without having to compromise too much regarding space. Most stackable washer and dryer configurations come in the front-loading design as opposed to the top-loading design, which makes it easier to access both the washer and dryer while they are stacked. Throughout the years, washing machines, drying machines, and combo machines alike have received numerous improvements in technology, making for better functionality, effectiveness, and efficiency. Today, washer dryer combination units have many of the features that would be found on a typical washer and dryer. While these units are far more popular in Europe and some countries in the East, they are gaining popularity in the United States as a practical and functional laundry solution.

Pressure Washer

A pressure washer is a mechanical device that uses high-pressure water to remove mold, grime, dust, mud and dirt from surfaces and objects such as buildings, vehicles and concrete road surfaces.

The most basic pressure washer consists of:

  • a motor which drives a water pump high pressure hose trigger gun.

Some pressure washers, in combination with a particular nozzle, allow detergents to be introduced into the water stream, assisting in the cleaning process. Two types of chemical injectors are available: a low-pressure injector and a high pressure injector.

Pressure washers are dangerous tools and should be operated with due regard to safety instructions. The water pressure near the nozzle is powerful enough to strip flesh from bone.

In its extreme high pressure form, water is used in many industrial cleaning applications requiring the removal of surface layers as well as dust-free cutting of some metals and concrete. For exterior applications, gas or propane powered pressure washers provide enhanced mobility not available in electric models, as they do not require use in proximity to an electrical outlet. However, for indoor applications, electric pressure washers produce no exhaust and are much quieter than their gas or propane powered counterparts.

Frontload Washer

The front loading design or H-axis clothes washer, most popular in Europe and the Middle East, mounts the inner basket and outer tub horizontally, and loading is through a door at the front of the machine. The door often but not always contains a window.

Agitation is supplied by the back-and-forth rotation of the cylinder and by gravity. The clothes are lifted up by paddles on the inside wall of the drum and then dropped. This motion flexes the weave of the fabric and forces water and detergent solution through the clothes load.

Front-loaders control water usage through the surface tension of water, and the capillary wicking action this creates in the fabric weave.

Tests comparing front loading and top loading machines have shown that, in general, front-loaders wash clothes more thoroughly, cause less wear, and use less water and energy than top-loaders.

As a result of using less water, they require less detergent to be used, or conversely, they can use the same amount of detergent with less water, which increases detergent concentration and increases the amount of chemical action. They also allow a dryer to be more easily mounted directly above the washer.

Maytag Washer

A washing machine, clothes washer, or simply washer, is a machine designed to wash laundry, such as clothing, towels and sheets. The term is mostly applied only to machines that use water as the primary cleaning solution, as opposed to dry cleaning or even ultrasonic cleaners.

All washer machines work by using mechanical energy, thermal energy, and chemical action.

Mechanical energy is imparted to the clothes load by the rotation of the agitator in top loaders, or by the tumbling action of the drum in front loaders. Thermal energy is supplied by the temperature of the wash bath. The spin speed in these machines can vary from 500 to 1600rpm.

Modern washing machines are available in two configurations: top loading and front loading.

The top loading design or V-axis clothes washer is the most popular. Clothes are placed in a vertically-mounted perforated basket that is contained within a water-retaining tub, with a propeller-like agitator in the center of the bottom of the basket. Clothes are loaded through the top of the machine, which is covered with a hinged door.

During the wash cycle, the outer tub is filled with water sufficient to suspend the clothing freely in the basket, and the movement of the agitator pulls the clothing downward in the center towards the agitator paddles. The clothing then moves outward and up the sides of the basket to repeat the process. Top-loaders are not well-suited to cleaning large objects such as pillows or sleeping bags due to the tendency for them to just float on the surface of the water without circulating, and the aggressive agitator action can damage delicate fabrics.

A front loading washing machine, in a fully-fitted kitchen, is often disguised as an ordinary base cabinet/unit. They are also ideal for small homes and apartments with limited space, because the dryer can be installed directly above the washer. They're also more convenient for paraplegic & "little people", as the controls are front-mounted and the horizontal drum eliminates the need for standing and/or climbing.rum, resulting in tearing and damage to the pinched clothing during tumbling and spinning.

Toilet Bowls

A toilet is a plumbing fixture and disposal system primarily intended for the disposal of the bodily wastes: urine and fecal matter. Additionally, vomit and menstrual waste are sometimes disposed of in toilets in Western societies.

The word toilet describes the fixture and, the room containing the fixture.
The latter is sometimes called a washroom; a restroom or bathroom.
The latter term often describes a room that also contains a bath tub.
A room with only a toilet and a sink is sometimes called a half-bathroom, a half bath, and a powder room

The most common type of toilet in modern cities is the flush toilet, in which water takes away the waste through sewers to a waste treatmtent plants. In rural areas where sewers are not practical, septic tanks may be instballed instead.

Kitchen Faucet

A faucet is a valve which controls the release of liquids or gas. It is particularly used as fittings that control water supply to bathtubs and sinks.

Modern bathroom and kitchen taps often use ceramic or plastic surfaces, sliding against other spring-loaded ceramic surfaces or plastic washers. These tend to require far less maintenance than traditional globe valves and when maintenance is required, the entire interior of the valve is usually replaced, often as a single pre-assembled cartridge.

Bathtubs

A bathtub or tub is a plumbing fixture used for bathing.

Most modern bathtubs are made of acrylic or fiberglass, but alternatives are available in enameland steelor cast-iron, and occasionally waterproof finished wood.A bathtub is usually placed in bathroom, either as a stand-alone fixture or in conjunction with a shower.

Modern bathtubs have overflow and waste drains and may have taps mounted on them. They may be built-in or free standing or sometimes sunken.

Two main styles of bathtub are common:

  • Western-style bathtubs in which the bather lies down. These baths are typically shallow and long.
  • Eastern style bathtubs in which the bather sits up. These are typically short and deep.

The clawfoot tub or claw-foot tub is typically made of cast iron, or sometimes acrylic. Once considered a luxury item, modern technology has contributed to a drop in the price of clawfoot tubs. Hence, while true antique clawfoot tubs are still considered collectible items, new reproduction clawfoot tubs are chosen by remodellers and new home builders.

Whirlpool tubs first became popular in America during the 1960s and 70's. A spa is also called a "jacuzzi" in USA since the word became a generic after plumbing component manufacturer Jacuzzi introduced the "Spa Whirlpool" in 1968.

Embroidery Machine

Machine embroidery is now so heavily utilized for product branding, corporate advertising, uniform adornment and also for personal sewing and craft projects by hobbyists that the word "embroidery" is now generally more readily associated with forms of Machine Embroidery than any of the more traditional forms of "Hand Embroidery".

There are two main types of Machine Embroidery:

The first "Free Motion Sewing Machine Embroidery", involves using a basic zigzag sewing machine.

The second "Computerized Machine Embroidery" involves using an embroidery machine or sewing/embroidery machine.

Free-Motion Machine Embroidery is the process whereby embroidered designs are created utilizing a basic zigzag sewing machine.(i.e. That is, utilizing a machine that has essentially been designed primarily for tailoring. These types of sewing machines are not computer controlled, do not have an in built "hooping" system and are not capable of loading pre-made patterns).

With the advent of computerized machine embroidery, the main use of manual machine embroidery isin fiber art and quilting projects. While some still use this type of embroidery to embellish garments, with the ease and decreasing cost of computerized embroidery machine, it is rapidly falling out of favor. Many quilters and fabric artists now use a free machine embroidery process often called "thread drawing" (or thread painting) to create embellishments on items, or to create examples of textile art.

These days virtually all modern embroidery machines are computer controlled and specifically engineered for embroidery.

Not all machines are for embroidery only. Some are a combination of embroidery and sewing. Some of the more advanced features becoming available include a large color touchscreen, a USB interface, design editing software on the machine, embroidery adviser software, and design file storage systems.

Just about any type of fabric can be embroidered, given the proper stabilizer. For example, open lace and embroidering items are being developed. Anything from paper to fabric to lightweight balsa wood and more can be embroidered. Machine embroidery commonly uses polyester, Rayon, or metallic embroidery thread, though other thread types are available. 40wt thread is the most commonly used embroidery thread weight. Bobbin thread is usually either 60wt or 90wt thread. The quality of thread used can greatly affect the number of thread breaks and other embroidery problems. Polyester thread is generally more color safe and durable.

Espresso Machine

An espresso machine is used to produce the traditional Italian coffee beverage called espresso.

A steam-driven unit operates by forcing water through the coffee by using steam or steam pressure. The first espresso machines were steam types, produced when a common boiler was piped to four group heads so that multiple types of coffee could be made at the same time. The design is still used today in low-cost consumer machines, as it does not need to contain moving parts. Many low-cost steam-driven units are sold in combination with a drip-coffee machine.

The piston, or lever, driven machine was developed in Italy in 1945 by Achille Gaggia, founder of espresso machine manufacturer Gaggia. The design generically uses a lever, pumped by the operator, to pressurize hot water and send it through the coffee grinds.

There are two types of lever machines; manual piston and spring piston design. With the manual piston, the operator directly pushes the water through the grounds. In the spring piston design, the operator works to tension a spring, which then delivers the pressure for the espresso.

A refinement of the piston machine is the pump-driven machine, which has become the most popular design in commercial espresso bars. Instead of using manual force, a motor-driven pump provides the force necessary for espresso brewing. Commercial or some high-end home machines are often attached directly to the plumbing of the site; lower-end home machines have built-in water reservoirs.

Some home pump espresso machines typically use a single chamber both for heating water to brewing temperature, and to boil water for steaming milk. Since the temperature for brewing coffee is sometimes less than the temperature for creating steam, the machine requires time to make the transition from one mode to the other. Water for brewing most commonly passes through a heat exchanger (taking some heat from the steam, without rising to the same temperature).

Electric Blender

A blender is a kitchen used to mix ingredients or puree food. The term typically refers to a stationary, upright electrical device, which is to be distinguished from a hand-powered or electric mixer that may be used for similar purposes. Blenders are also used in laboratory applications.

The bender container can be madeof glass, plastic, stainless steal, or porcelain, and often has graduated markings for approximate measuring purposes. At the top of the container is a lid to prevent ingredients from escaping during operation. At the bottom is a blade assembly, sometimes removable for cleaning purposes. In cases where the blades are removable, the container should have an o-ring between the body of the container and the base to seal the container and prevent the contents from leaking.

The container rests upon a base that contains a motor for turning the blade assembly and has controls on its surface. Most modern blenders offer a number of possible speeds. Low-powered blenders require some liquid to be added for the blender to operate correctly. This is because the liquid is used to move the solids around the jar and bring it in contact with the blade as the "whirlpool" fluid movement brings items from the top to the bottom. High-powered blenders are capable of milling grains and crushing ice without such assistance.

Some of the functions of blenders have been taken over by food processors. In particular, thicker mixtures such as mayonnaise and hummus are easier to make in food processors.

Blenders are used both in home and commercial kitchens for various purposes, such as

  • Mix and crush cocktails
  • Emulsify mixtures
  • Make smooth purees of semi-solid ingredients
  • Reduces spices and seeds to powder
  • Help dissolve solids into liquids.

  • A blender consists of housing, motor, blades, and food container. A fan-cooled electric motor is secured into the housing by way of vibration dampers, and a small output shaft penetrates the upper housing and meshes with the blade assembly. Usually, a small rubber washer provides a seal around the output shaft to prevent liquid from entering the motor. Most blenders today have multiple speeds.

Microwave Oven

A microwave oven, or a microwave, is a kitchen appliance that cooks or heat food by dielecric heating. This is accomplished by using microwave radiation to heat water and other polarized molecules within the food. This excitation is fairly uniform, leading to food being adequately heated throughout (except in thick objects), a feature not seen in any other heating technique.

Basic microwave ovens heat food quickly and efficiently, but do not brown or bake food in the way conventional ovens do. This makes them unsuitable for cooking certain foods, or to achieve certain effects. Additional kinds of heat sources can be added to microwave packaging, or into combination microwave ovens, to add these additional effects.

Microwaving food raises several safety issues, but also reduces certain risks, such as that of fire from high temperature heat sources.

A microwave oven works by passing non-ionizing microwave radiation, usually at a frequency of 2.4 gigabertz through the food. Microwave radiation is between common radio and infrared frequencies. Water, fat and other substances in the food absorb energy from the microwaves in a processcalled dielectric heating. Many molecules (such as those of water) are electric dipoles, meaning that they have a positive charge at one end and a negative charge at the other, and therefore rotate as they try to align themselves with the alternating electric field of the microwaves. This molecular movement represent heat which is then dispersed as the rotating molecules hit other molecules and put them into motion.

. Depending on water content, the depth of initial heat deposition may be several centimetres or more with microwave ovens, in contrast to broiling or convection heating, which deposit heat thinly at the food surface. Penetration depth of microwaves is dependent on food composition and the frequency, with lower microwave frequencies (longer wavelengths) penetrating better.

Dehumidifier

A dehumidifier is mostly a household appliance that reduces the level of humidity in the air, usually for health reasons, as humid air can can cause mold and mildew to grow inside homes, which has various health risks. Relative humidity is preferably 30 to 50%. Very high humidity levels are also unpleasant for human beings, can cause condensation and can make it hard to dry laundry or sleep. Higher humidity is also preferred by most insects, including clothes moths, fleas and cocroaches. Dehumidifiers are used in industrial climatic chambers for keeping certain level of humidity.

Mechanical/refrigerative dehumidifiers, the most common type, usually work by drawing moist air over a refrigerated coil with a small fan. Since the saturation vapor pressure of water decreases with decreasing temperature, the water in the air condenses, and drips into a collecting bucket. The air is then reheated by the warmer side of the refrigeration coil. This process works most effectively with higher ambient temperatures with a high dew point temperature. In cold climates, the process is less effective. They are most effective at over 45% relative humidity, higher if the air is cold.

Electronic dehumidifiers use a peltier heat pump to generate a cool surface for condensing the water vapour from the air. This type of dehumidifier has the benefit of being very quiet when in use as there is no mechanical compressor. This design is mainly used for very small dehumidifiers due to the simple design and low cost of parts.

Air Conditioners usually act as dehumidifiers when they chill the air and thus need to handle the accumulated water as well. Newer window units use the condensing coil and fan to evaporate the accumulated water into the outdoor air, while older units simply allow the water to drip outside. Central air conditioning units need to be connected to a drain.

An air conditioner is very similar to a dehumidifier. Air in a dehumidifier passes over a series of cooling coils (the evaporator) and then over a set of heating coils (the condenser). It then goes back into the room as dryer air with its temperature elevated.

However in an air conditioner, air passes over the cooling coils (the evaporator) and then directly into the room. The heated freon then goes through a tube outside the house and into the heating coils (the condenser) and outside air passes over it and then stays outside. The water which condenses on the evaporator in a dehumidifier is caught in the drain pan or drain hose. The water that condenses on the evaporator in an air conditioner runs thorough a duct to the outside of the window.

Chest/Deep Freezers

Refrigeration is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space, or from a substance, and moving it to a place where it is unobjectionable.

The primary purpose of refrigeration is lowering the temperature of the enclosed space or substance and then maintaining that lower temperature. The term cooling refers generally to any natural or artificial process by which heat is dissipated. The process of artificially producing extreme cold temperatures is referred to as cryogenics.

A freezer is a cooling appliance which comprises a thermally insulated compartment and a heat pump which transfers heat from it either by chemical or mechanical means to the external environment, cooling the contents to a a temperature below ambien. A freezer is also described as a device which maintains a temperature below the freezing point of water.

Cold is the absence of heat, hence in order to decrease a temperature, one "removes heat", rather than "adding cold." Freezer units are used in households and in industry and commerce. Most freezers operate around 0 °F (-18 °C). Domestic freezers can be included as a separate compartment in a refrigerator, or can be a separate appliance. Domestic freezers are generally upright units resembling refrigerators, or chests resembling upright units laid on their backs. Many upright modern freezers come with an ice dispenser built into their door.

Ceiling Fan

A ceiling fan is a device suspended from the ceiling of a room, which employs hub-mounted rotating paddles to circulate air in order to move air.

Most ceiling fans can be used in two different ways - for heating or cooling. Most fans have a mechanism, commonly an electrical switch, for reversing the direction in which the blades rotate.

In summer, when the fan's direction of rotation is set so that air is blown downward (typically counter-clockwise except for the fan with the blade tilting different way, when standing under the fan and looking upwards), the breeze created by a ceiling fan speeds the evaporation of sweat on human skin, which is experienced as a cooling effect.

In winter, buildings in colder climates are usually heated. Air naturally stratifies — that is, warmer air rises to the ceiling while cooler air sinks to the floor. A ceiling fan, with its direction of rotation set so that air is drawn upward (typically clockwise except for the fan with the blade tilting different way), mixes the warm at the ceiling with cooler air near the floor, warming up the living space. This allows homeowners to set their thermostat a few degrees lower in winter to save on energy without losing out on comfort.

There is an exception to the standard rule of blowing down in the summer and up in the winter. When a ceiling fan is mounted in a room with very high ceilings that are two stories/levels high. The mode of operation is reversed. In this scenario the fan is mounted so high up that there is no significant "wind chill effect". The purpose then becomes to move hot air down in the winter and pull cold air up in the summer.

The toaster is typically a small electric kitchen appliance designed to toat multiple types of bread products. There are also non-electrical toasters that can be used to toast bread products over an open fire or flame.

Modern toasters are typically one of three varieties: pop-up toasters, ovens, and conveyors.

In earlier days, the completion of the toasting operation was determined by a mechanical clockwork timer; the user could adjust the running time of the timer to determine the degree of "doneness" of the toast, but the first cycle produced less toasted toast than subsequent cycles because the toaster was not yet warmed up.

Toasters made since the 1930s frequently use a thermal sensor, such as a bimetallic strip located close to the toast. This allows the first cycle to run longer than subsequent cycles. The thermal device is also slightly responsive to the actual temperature of the toast itself. Like the timer, it can be adjusted by the user to determine the "doneness" of the toast.

Conveyor toasters are designed to make many slices of toast and are generally used in the catering industry, being suitable for large-scale use. Bread is toasted 350-900 slices an hour, making conveyor toasters ideal for a large restaurant that is constantly busy with growing demand. However, such devices have occasionally been produced for home use as far back as 1938, when the Toast-O-Lator went into limited production.

Sometimes toast gets stuck in a toaster, particularly pop-up toasters, and must be freed manually. As most toasters are in the kitchen, metal knives and forks are typically an easily available tool but can cause risk of electric shock, unless the appliance is disconnected from the main electrical outlet.
