Chest/Deep Freezers

Refrigeration is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space, or from a substance, and moving it to a place where it is unobjectionable.

The primary purpose of refrigeration is lowering the temperature of the enclosed space or substance and then maintaining that lower temperature. The term cooling refers generally to any natural or artificial process by which heat is dissipated. The process of artificially producing extreme cold temperatures is referred to as cryogenics.

A freezer is a cooling appliance which comprises a thermally insulated compartment and a heat pump which transfers heat from it either by chemical or mechanical means to the external environment, cooling the contents to a a temperature below ambien. A freezer is also described as a device which maintains a temperature below the freezing point of water.

Cold is the absence of heat, hence in order to decrease a temperature, one "removes heat", rather than "adding cold." Freezer units are used in households and in industry and commerce. Most freezers operate around 0 °F (-18 °C). Domestic freezers can be included as a separate compartment in a refrigerator, or can be a separate appliance. Domestic freezers are generally upright units resembling refrigerators, or chests resembling upright units laid on their backs. Many upright modern freezers come with an ice dispenser built into their door.
